GROUP CLASSES

New Fall Group Class Schedule Coming SOON!! Check back often!

Lake Norman Dog Training  group training classes are designed for people just like you! We are raising the bar for the family dog!. You probably don’t really want a show dog—but a "show off" dog would be great! We offer free-play sessions in our Puppy Manners class, and Star-Barks which helps the dogs "get their ya-ya's out" and after free-play we get to work! These are great opportunities for you to put your dog in "real-world" situations while remaining in a controlled environment, allowing you to train your dog and establish the relationship and leadership you'll need with your dog when you go out in public... Did someone mention Starbucks!?! With your well-behaved dog, you can order a latté, sit relaxed at the café table without having your dog embarrass you!

Star-Bark 101

Requirements:  No prerequisite..open to all dogs over 5 months of age.

Classes are 60 minutes long.

Basic 2

This is a fun group that is a MUST for owners that like to travel and spend time with their dogs.  Commands taught in this class are: Heel, positive recall, long down stays, public courtesy, and we will have a class "out on the town" to practice our behaviors, as well as a class at the local coffee house!  We will start teaching the phase 2 and 3 of training: corrections and proofing.  This is a FUN class! Come and join us!

Requirements: Previous training or trainer approval.  Dogs should be able to respond appropriately to sit, down and walk on a leash.

Classes are 60 minutes long.

Intermediate Group:

Intermediate teaches more advanced skills such as heel, positive recall, front and finish. Silent hand signals are taught in this class as well!  This is an active class with lots of practice time!!

Requirements:  Your dog should have completed the Beginner Group or a minimum of 6 private lessons or completion of another training program.  Your dog should have mastered sit, down, and stay (without distractions) to enroll in this class.

Classes are 90 minutes in length.

Canine Good Citizen Prep  and Mock Test ( CGC):

Are you ready to take your dog to the next step?  The AKC Canine Good Citizen Award can be just the thing!  Even though the award is given through the AKC, all dogs are able to take the test and receive the award!  It takes some work, but the rewards are endless.  If you are interested in therapy work with your dog is the a great step to certification through therapy groups.  Interested in Agility? Most qualified agility instructors prefer a dog that has received their CGC award.  Have a "hit list" dog - ones that seemingly get branded as a "bad dog" ( pit bulls, rotties, dobies?) Give your dog the BEST chance to speak for his breed by earning the CGC award.

We will also administer a MOCK exam to get you ready for the real thing!! The mock exam is free with the CGC Prep course.

Requirements:  Your dog should know the basics of sit, down, stay, be non- aggressive to people and other dogs.

Classes are 90 minutes in length.

"If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around." - cowboy wisdom

Group Classes are held in HICKORY,  STATESVILLE ( Cool Springs),  MOORESVILLE and Troutman

Is my dog ready for Group Classes?

Group classes are designed to offer your dog the opportunity to learn in an environment with many distractions.  We recommend that you complete at least 4 private lessons before entering a group class, however is it not required. During the group class we will perfect the skills your dog already knows, including leash walking and come when called.  In addition, we offer several skill based workshops to focus on leash manners, come when called, stay with distractions.

Requirement for Group Class Attendance

Dogs over the age of 16 weeks must show proof of rabies vaccination prior to attending any group class. Ask your vet about other recommended vaccines for group classes.

Classes Offered:

Drill and Skill

Drill and Skill is a special 45 Minute class open to Intermediate and Master level teams. Drill and Skill includes heeling drills, mega-distraction stays and recalls, and even team games and races; all designed to enhance the dog's reliability and dependability. Most handlers choose this class because the dog has fun while learning to interact socially with their "team mates".

Beginning Rally Obedience (Rally-O):

Rally Obedience is an exciting new sport for dogs and owners alike. It encompasses some of the elements of rally sports car racing, dog agility, and traditional obedience combined into a new fun sport.  Handlers may do anything to encourage their dogs except physically touch them or make corrections with the leash. Check out the AKC site for more information on Rally - O - www.akc.org

Requirements: This class is open to dog with previous training, either through a formal program such as ours, a retail program such as PetsMart or at home obedience training.  If you are interested but not sure if your dog is ready, feel free to email or call us!

Classes are 90 minutes long.

 K-9 Kids Day Camp:

Calling all kids! (ages 7 to 12)
Do you have a dog of your own? Are you planning to get one? Do you just love to be around dogs? Then this class is for you! It’s a just-for-kids class that teaches you about dogs by playing games, learning tricks and having fun. Bring your dog or, if you don’t have one yet, practice with one of ours!
Learn the secret language of dogs!
Did you know that dogs have a language all their own? It's true! Learn how to speak "dog" and help your dog learn how to speak "human". Our dogs talk to us all the time. You'll amaze your friends and family with how well you and your dog communicate!
Learn fun games to play with your dog!
Dogs love to play. But not all games are good for your dog. Some teach bad habits or could get you hurt. We'll teach you games that are great for both you and your dog.
Teach your old dog a new trick!
Many people think some dogs are too old to learn. But that's just not true! Whether your dog is a brand new puppy or a seasoned grandpa, we'll show you how to teach him a trick or two.
Show your parents that you are responsible!
Learn how to handle and care for your dog. Learn the right way to approach strange dogs, how to protect your dog from scary situations, and how to keep yourself safe around dogs. Having the parents put the kids in control for an hour of power with their puppy is sometimes the best lesson for child. Kids without dogs will still be allowed to handle a dog. Yes, we have spare dogs! But no, you can't keep them. You can borrow them during class.
See how dogs play!
Each K-9 kids class includes playtime for the pups. This is a great way for you to see how dogs play together and why your dog plays with you the way he does. Plus, it's a lot of fun for the dogs!
K-9 Kids -  For kids and dogs come join the fun! No big people allowed, how fun is that!
